Medusa

I prayed for Inspiration and for time.
The Universe presented me with Serpents.
My eyes gleaming, fixed to theirs,
my blood ran ice.

With distant gaze I watched the work unfold;
mysterious undulations, nameless worlds - alien.
In a daze of delirious toil, I seemed untouchable,
inhuman, a mutant--I was complete!

The gods must have laughed when she appeared,
sprung from the nest that formed my head,
and warm and succulent, anchored in my heart,
she made the serpents dormant…

awaiting time,
awaiting further Inspiration.
