Introducing award-winning actress, Christine Solomon

Author: Christina - Published 2010-09-23 22:26 - (5744 Reads)
This up-and-comer (born in Egypt and raised in Montreal) is quickly making a name for herself on the North American film and television scene, most recently being cast in the original movie ‘Fakers’. The gifted Egyptian-Canadian performer is already an established staple in the entertainment industry in Egypt, and is now showcasing her talent to the Western hemisphere.

‘Fakers’ is an original pay TV movie from the producers and director of ‘Last Casino’. This provocative story of teen counterfeiters stars Greyston Holt (Durham County) and Andrew Francis (L Word, X-Men Evolution) and will premiere on Movie Central and The Movie Network in spring 2010.

‘Fakers’ tells the shocking story of three ordinary teenagers from one of Canada’s most elite schools, who were the masterminds of a major counterfeiting operation under the noses of their teachers and parents, and shows how it all came crashing down. Christine plays an exotic dancer who plays a pivotal role in the operations takedown. ‘Fakers’ is a Cite Amerique production, with director Pierre Gill (Last Casino) at the helm, and written by Jesse McKeown (DaVinci’s Inquest, Robson Arms).

Lost love, ruined lives, and run-of-the-mill dementia...and there’s a twist — it’s funny! Spots of Time is a tragicomedy that delves into the mind of an ageing professor haunted by his past. Visions of his younger self lead him deeper down the rabbit hole, unraveling the threads of his sanity. Spots of Time is a unique production that spans generations with a cast and crew ranging from teens to seniors. Through it all they have developed a bond of friendship, trust and understanding that belies a 50 year age gap to produce theatre magic. The members of this production have a genuine passion for the arts, and isn’t that what The Montreal 2010 Fringe Festival is all about?

HOT PINK

Meet eighteen year-old Lindi: orphan, runaway, hermit. She lives in a cave on the edge of town, barely surviving on a steady diet of coffee, insomnia and denial. She’ll spin you tales of utopia on a dust particle, of love shattered like broken glass and of her alternate self, in the wee hours of the morning during a passing storm. What at first appears to be the ideal escape is ruptured when the frightening truth behind Lindi’s dream world comes to light. With only a teddy bear, a book and the voices in her head to give her strength, Lindi must face the music or spiral deeper into madness. Introducing, 'No small potatoes: A Journey ', by Elizabeth Johnston

Author: Christina - Published 2010-06-10 22:28 - (2850 Reads)

No Small Potatoes: A Journey

A book about food safety told through personal narratives so that complicated issues are made easier to understand and apply to one's own life.

I never thought a book about potatoes could be so interesting and informative. The story (and this does read as a story) about the history and exploitation of potato farming left me stunned. Its scope goes far beyond the potato. It sheds light on modern farming and the dangers of capitalism when money is more important than the well being of communities.
Review by Marni Maguire.
