The Montreal Zen Poetry Festival, March 16th to 18th, 2007

Author: Christina - Published 2007-03-12 12:42 - (984 Reads)

The Festival

“Words have no meaning” is the theme of the very first ever Montreal Zen Poetry Festival, an ambitious and enigmatic affair that will take off the weekend of March 16th to 18th, 2007.

Poets, translators, story-tellers, scholars, musicians, and Zen monks will come together to explore how Zen embraces a paradoxical relationship with language – a relationship which has strongly influenced both Asian and North American poetry movements.

The Montreal Zen Poetry Festival invites everyone, of all ages, to take part in the meaningful and entertaining line-up of events with our lively and thought-provoking performers and speakers.

Bewildered? Belittled? Behind? You need a night out. Come to

Bedraggled

Written and performed by Gabrielle Maes
Directed by Pierre Carniaux
February 16 and 22, 23, 24

Bedraggled follows the rise – but mostly the fall – of LA DIVA. Using songs from the opera, musicals and nightclubs for comic flashbacks, Gabrielle Maes traces how a Divine Diva ends up drunk, disheveled and on the streets. While Gabrielle transforms seamlessly between beautifully drawn characters, the audience is captivated by her story, humour and voice. Bedraggled sold out during its limited run in Montreal and was one of the top shows at the 2006 Atlantic Fringe Festival...

Come and enjoy getting Bedraggled.

Four shows only

Opening Night: Friday, February 16, 8:00pm
Run: Thursday, Feb. 22-Saturday, Feb. 24, 8:00pm
La Balustrade, Monument-National

Invitation to ELAN’s cinq-a-sept, Valentine’s, Tuesday, 13 February, 2007

Author: Christina - Published 2007-02-11 19:46 - (984 Reads)
Vicki Marcok is the publishing rep on the ELAN (English Language Arts Network) board. She wants to invite everyone to ELAN’s cinq-a-sept for Valentine’s Day – a way for our artistic community to get better acquainted.

It will be held Tuesday, February 13, from 5 to 7 at the Empress Theatre (the old Cinema V at 5560 Sherbrooke West in NDG). Please RSVP ELAN at admin at quebec-elan.org, with Valentine’s Get Together in the subject line, so they will know how many to cater for.

Built in 1927, this beautiful Art Deco landmark is the only Egyptian-themed theatre in Canada, and was once the social hub of the community it graced. For over 12 years, this fine old building has stood empty and forlorn, but a group of committed citizens is working to rebuild and recreate this heritage landmark into a fine and performing arts centre, named the Empress Cultural Centre http://www.empressndg.org

As ELAN members, you are invited to come mix, mingle & schmooze with fellow members and the ELAN Board, and while you’re at it find out what’s happening with the Empress project (mini tours will be given upon request).

Beer, juice & snacks will be served. Feel free to bring anyone who may find ELAN or the Empress of interest, but do RSVP to admin at quebec-elan.org by end of day Sunday with “RSVP” in the subject line to help us prepare.

Looking forward to seeing you there, ELAN Board & Staff

Making Life Easier for Artists with new Art Services Kit (ASK)

Author: Christina - Published 2007-01-24 08:59 - (986 Reads)

Quebec’s English Language Arts Network (ELAN):

Making Life Easier for Artists with new Art Services Kit (ASK)
ELAN is pleased to announce the launching of the Arts Services Kit (ASK), a new tool on its website for artists and arts service providers.

ASK is funded by Canadian Heritage and goes right to the heart of why ELAN was created—to share resources and contacts between artists. ASK provides a listing of arts organizations, a funding database, and tip sheets on applying for grants. The central component is a directory of service providers in Quebec. Our directory ranges from listings of proofreaders/editors, rehearsal space rentals, relaxation therapists, to accountants who are sensitive to the challenges faced by freelance artists. If you are an arts service provider and would like to sign up to list your service, or you are an artist looking for a service, information on training/professional development and funding, ASK is for you!

http://www.quebec-elan.org/en/ask

Membership with ELAN is free to Quebec artists and provides information on events, frequent updates about arts in Quebec, advocacy, and other items of interest to artists of all disciplines. If you are interested in becoming a member, sign up today.

Ballroom Level 2, New Year 2007

Author: Christina - Published 2007-01-05 21:05 - (1143 Reads)

Hello everyone! Bonjour à tous!

(français en dessous)

We're all excited (the crew and me) about the new classes starting next week! We haven't seen some of you for a while and can't wait to get reacquainted! And there are some new people we're dying to meet, especially the ones who send us funny emails.

My Ballroom Level 2 people: Guess what! We're going to have the Level 2 class on Sundays at 3. Yes, I know it's the same time as the Level 1 class. Don't ask too many questions about how we managed that. There will be two of us keeping you occupied. So, if you've been waiting to put your dance shoes back on, you can do it on the 14th...

The rest of you who haven't registered yet, you don't wanna miss the party! Check out the schedule at:
