In memory of our friend and colleague, Cheryl Anne Neill
- Published 2007-09-13 00:02 - (2014 Reads)Cheryl Anne Neill passed away on Sept. 5 after a brief illness.
"...Artist, musician, playwright, poet, storyteller, teacher. Cheryl played a vital role in the arts community and in education. Friend and mentor to many, she was passionate in her encouragement of others to reach their potential. Fiercely determined, she believed in the power of the individual to bring about change. A gathering of Cheryl's friend will be held on Saturday, September 15, 2007 at 3pm at Adair Hall, 24 Maple Ave. Ste-Anne-de-Bellevue. In lieu of flowers, anyone who shared in the joy of Cheryl's life is encouraged to support the arts, write a poem, sing a song, dance until it feels good.
"You gotta put one foot in front of the other
One step could change it all
Ramble all over - no matter where you wander...
You're walkin to find who you are"

COME PARTICIPATE IN OUR FIRST PYRAMID OF SHOES! Saturday, September 8, 2007
- Published 2007-09-01 17:56 - (2303 Reads)COME PARTICIPATE IN OUR FIRST PYRAMID OF SHOES!
Since1995, French and European citizens have gathered annually in over 40 cities in order to create a Pyramid of shoes as a sign of protest against the use of antipersonnel landmines and cluster munitions. It is also a symbolic expression of solidarity with all the victims of these weapons and an opportunity to ask the public to sign a petition for the establishment of an international treaty against the use of cluster munitions.Get involved right now by becoming a volunteer or by sponsoring the event, but most of all, do not forget to bring lots of shoes! The shoes will be recuperated by Certex, a non-profit organization whose mission is both environmental (recuperation/recycling of clothing sent to low income countries) and social (over 60% of its employees are people with disabilities).

THE LOST I
A novel set in modern-day Lebanon
This is stunning writing. It is powerful and emotional, really and truly gripping stuff. It offers a real insight into how people cope in such terrible conditions and what it must be like to have to endure them. The tension is palpable and for that alone the author is to be commended. WN-England

For the past thirteen years, the Thomas More Institute has sponsored its annual Spring Series, inviting distinguished individuals to share with us their insights on issues of cultural or moral significance. This year the Bibliothèque et Archives nationales du Québec has honored us by agreeing to act as a partner in this event. The first four interviews of the 2007 series will take place in the 300-seat auditorium of the Grande Bibliothèque, 475 boul. De Maisonneuve Est at the corner of rue Berri, on May 8, 15, 22, and 29 in the evening starting at 7:00 p.m. (The Grande Bibliothèque is accessible from the Berri-UQAM Metro station.) The Spring Series culminates with a fifth interview that will be held at the Institute’s annual convocation on June 12th.
