PUSS IN BOOTS
The Left of Centre Theatre Company is very happy to be presenting its second pantomime: Puss in Boots. Come see how the Big Bad Ogre terrifies the kingdom of King Eric, how the very clever Puss assists Harry, the poor miller's son, to trick the Ogre (by using special magic of course!) and how Puss helps Harry win the heart of the beautiful Princess. Puss in Boots, a pantomime, is for both the young and young at heart and again enjoys having lots of audience participation. Directed by Simone Nichol, starring Leanna Glance, Margaret Owen, Heather Huff, Anne-Marie Saheb and Michael Panich.

Expozine is Montreal's annual small press, comic and zine fair. This incredible event brings together nearly 300 different creators of all kinds of printed matter - from books to zines to visual art and comics - in both English and French. In the past seven years, Expozine has grown to become Canada's largest small press fair, attracting thousands of visitors as well as exhibitors from as far afield as New York, Toronto, Halifax, Ottawa, and Quebec City.
At Expozine, you can discover a multitude of publications that can be difficult to find in the first place, much less altogether in the same room! The result is a rare opportunity to peruse the work of hundreds of young and emerging authors, publishers and artists, and to see what the winners of last year's Expozine Alternative Press Awards are up to. - Published 2008-11-05 19:49 - (2451 Reads)This book is intended for those who, in these difficult times, question the very meaning of existence and the troubling events of our era, without reaching a satisfactory conclusion. September 11, 2001 was the opening salvo of a series of events, destined to usher in a global system that will provide solutions to the myriad problems affecting mankind. After providing a fleeting respite, however, it will go on to inflict horrendous evil.
In the aftermath of a catastrophe, it is beneficial for a nation’s people to recite the twenty-third Psalm; yet it is far preferable that they should live in such fashion that these catastrophes do not occur. God did not refrain from saving a handful of souls during the destruction of Sodom. However, His Son has said that, unless we change our hearts, we will perish like the people of the Galilee (Luc 13, verses 1 to 5).

The little things get the big treatment in Geordie's stage adaptation of a well-loved and timeless classic. Away from the house-sized asteroid which he calls home, the Little Prince recounts the stories of characters he met on planets all over the universe in Antoine de Saint-Exupéry's tale of the follies of mankind and the simple truths that people seem to forget as they grow older. "It is only with the heart that one can see clearly; what is essential is invisible to the eye" - The Fox, in The Little Prince

It's possible to do even if you have a full-time job, but it is not easy. There's an informal group of Montreal-area nanowrimo-ers getting together once a week during October and November to talk problems out, assist and encourage one another, commiserate, and have fun. Currently we are meeting on Wednesday evenings at about 7PM in the Second Cup in Central Station.

For information about local events, follow the links from that site to forums, then to regional lounges, and finally to Canada, Quebec, Montreal. Or just show up at one of our weekly meets. Some participants like to plan their novels in advance. Others find it works better to have no preconceptions at all about what their novels are to be and start cold on November 1. There are no fees, no age limits, and no formal requirements to participate. You just need the willingness to try.

Love, that little, four-letter word, mysterious and elusive, evoking a myriad of complex and confusing emotions, with as many definitions as there are people. We want it, crave it, seek it yet also shun it, hide from it or run as far from it as possible. In a word – BRAVE! – this is one persistent adjective that comes to mind when reflecting on Tableau d’Hôte’s current stage production, terminating this weekend at Mainline Theatre on ‘the Main.’ Lion in the Streets, by Canadian playwright, Judith Thompson, is a raw, gritty, spiraling downward journey. It begins with the recollection of a 17-year-old ‘crime’ and ends, full circle, with some weird act of ‘forgiveness’, perhaps also of atonement. The dramatic narrative digs deep into secret-dread history; on route, it excavates the darkest places of the soul...

- Published 2008-10-18 13:21 - (2926 Reads)Shola Doummar's CD: LIBERTÀ is a great favourite: Spiritual, melodic, meditative and soothing. I was lucky enough to get my copy the day Shola performed at the ICN Conference, held at FACE, in 2005. LIBERTÀ has become a permanent fixture in my computer disk drive, a guaranteed tonic against - you guessed it - stress.
