Artistic director Bryna Wasserman welcomes award-winning filmm aker, Garry Beitel, discussing his acclaimed film, The Man who Learned to Fall. A f eature documentary, it is the story of Phil Simmons, a gifted writer and teacher who lived for ten years with ALS and articulated a passionate love of life as he became progressively more ill. The film is an intimate odyssey that follows him and his family in the last year of his life. Captured is the witty eloquence and poetic grace of a dying man and his heroic journey. Don’t miss this inspiring and informative morning.

Garry Beitel’s in-depth explorations of individuals and communities in transition have been broadcast on Canadian television for almost 20 years. Produced in both English and French, his probing, intimate portraits have won both national and international awards.
