Published 2007-11-10 16:07 - (1574 Reads) -Black Comedy by Peter Shaffer
As the play Black Comedy opens the stage is in total darkness. Brindsley Miller an avant-garde artist and his finance Carol Melkett are decorating his flat with furniture from their camp and fussy neighbor Harriet Gorringe. The purpose is to impress Carol’s father the bombastic Colonel Melkett and a French millionaire who is interested in Brindsley’s work. Then a fuse blows and the building is plunged into darkness at this point the stage is finally lit.Brindsley’s foreboding that the whole evening is going to a disaster. “An A-one copper-bottomed, twenty-four-carat disaster!” is not far off the mark. With the unexpected arrival of Brindsley’s ex-girlfriend Clea and Harriet whose furniture was illicitly borrowed the whole evening moves from one chaotic moment to another. Fun prevails in all the confusion!

Attention everyone! An invitation is extended. For the next two weeks you are invited to take part in a unique and universal journey entitled CROSSROADS. Unique, since each of us treads our own particular life-path with its share of bumps, snares, no-entries, dark alleyways and misty mazes; universal, because the essential human experiences are those which are common to all...
Holly Arsenault's accompaniment at the piano creates mellow mood music, atmospheric, and eminently listen-able...

Published 2007-10-31 07:00 - (2106 Reads) -View from a Dutch Garret…a window in time
John C. Dinning’s stage setting for this production of ‘The Diary of Anne Frank’ is intricate and life-like, yet with the compacted air of a doll’s house topped by a garret. From day one of the family’s seclusion, it becomes a background character in its own right, breathing its inhumane restrictions over 8 war-time Jews gone into hiding, holed up, literally, in its imprisoning cocoon of fragile safety and fear. Devoid of natural light, the 'verboten' view from their garret hiding place is a blacked-out window in time...

Jehanne of the Witches, playing at Geordie Theatre, October 17-21, 2007
Published 2007-10-06 22:39 - (3385 Reads) -MONTRÉAL, OCTOBER 2007—
Tableau D’Hôte is proud and pleased to present Sally Clark’s Jehanne of the Witches, which makes its Montréal debut at Geordie Theatre. Clark’s play, possibly the most radical and provocative examination of the Joan of Arc legend, breathes life into the familiar story by offering a look behind the icon, and by extension, a look inside her. Since its inception in 2005, Tableau D’Hôte has committed itself to producing noteworthy Canadian works that have never seen the light of day in Montréal. Jehanne of the Witches, by Chalmers Award-winning playwright Sally Clark, falls into this category. Bold and stirring, Clark’s examination of the legend of Joan of Arc is sure to excite and enrapture Montreal audiences. Brutal and bawdy, fearsome and funny, the deftness of her vision is at once entertaining and thought-provoking, breathing new life into a miraculous character we all know but have never really met.

Theatre Review: Unity (1918) at Monument-National, till October 7, 2007
Published 2007-10-02 01:18 - (8338 Reads) -Apocalypse Revisited, Saskatchewan 1918
Persephone Productions has done it once again with yet another exquisite piece of theatre. Their latest show, Unity (1918), is the award-winning play by Kevin Kerr: an often lyrical, sensitive and humane reflection on, surely, one of the bleakest epochs in Canadian history. The resulting mise en scène, however, is anything but—under Gabrielle Soskin’s direction, a gifted cast of actors rises to the challenge with exuberance and style...

"...Artist, musician, playwright, poet, storyteller, teacher. Cheryl played a vital role in the arts community and in education. Friend and mentor to many, she was passionate in her encouragement of others to reach their potential. Fiercely determined, she believed in the power of the individual to bring about change. A gathering of Cheryl's friend will be held on Saturday, September 15, 2007 at 3pm at Adair Hall, 24 Maple Ave. Ste-Anne-de-Bellevue. In lieu of flowers, anyone who shared in the joy of Cheryl's life is encouraged to support the arts, write a poem, sing a song, dance until it feels good.

Published 2007-09-01 17:56 - (2100 Reads) -COME PARTICIPATE IN OUR FIRST PYRAMID OF SHOES!
Since1995, French and European citizens have gathered annually in over 40 cities in order to create a Pyramid of shoes as a sign of protest against the use of antipersonnel landmines and cluster munitions. It is also a symbolic expression of solidarity with all the victims of these weapons and an opportunity to ask the public to sign a petition for the establishment of an international treaty against the use of cluster munitions.Get involved right now by becoming a volunteer or by sponsoring the event, but most of all, do not forget to bring lots of shoes! The shoes will be recuperated by Certex, a non-profit organization whose mission is both environmental (recuperation/recycling of clothing sent to low income countries) and social (over 60% of its employees are people with disabilities).
