Author: Christina - Published 2018-06-02 12:24 - (2124 Reads)

The Addams Family Tangos to Montreal this June!

WISTA's 10th book musical promises to be anything but "normal"

Three-time META Award nominee WISTA is pleased to announce its tenth full book musical production, The Addams Family, A New Musical Comedy. This production will run for 6 performances on June 8, 9, 14, 15 and 16 at 7:30 PM, as well as June 9 at 1:30 PM at Riverdale High School (5060 Boulevard des Sources, Pierrefonds, QC).

WISTA introduces Montrealers to the Addams Family as they’ve never seen them before; with songs that are eerily catchy and dances that are “to die for”, all with the familiar Addams flair for the dark. A cast of 26 young and talented performers deliver a show that will be dreadfully entertaining.

Tony Desjardins, a writer and student of Philosophy, is from Val-d’Or, Québec. During his childhood, he began by illustrating and selling his own comic books. His first self-published book, A Hero is Born, is a clash of Science-fiction and Fantasy, featuring interstellar wars, aliens, action and adventure. I found my sex in the trail-blaze to the North Queen

Hopper's nude wide as a prairie
laid low across Continents

extended up Banff down Peru
the Grand Canyon in daubs of paint
copper crevices shimmering climaxes

overgrown, awkward, unintelligent America,
humble giant gentile clutz
well-intentioned, well-intentioned
but sudden cut of cold-eyed malice...

Every once in a while, one comes across a story that becomes of great importance to the self and the collective. Every once in a while, one discovers an actor that has the innate ability to manifest that story. I found that story, its writer and the actor all in one package. A privilege, indeed. Collaboration is a meeting of hearts and minds. The partnership of script, actor and director is here in “A Perfect Picture” that tells the tragic story of a South African war photographer Kevin Carter, who in 1994, won the Pulitzer Prize for an iconic photo of the famine in Sudan. A photo of a vulture preying upon an emaciated toddler near the village of Ayod...

UNESCO World Book and Copyright Day, 23 April 2016

Author: Christina - Published 2016-04-08 15:14 - (2485 Reads)

"Literacy is the door to knowledge, essential to individual self-esteem and empowerment. Books, in all forms, play an essential role here." Irina Bokova, Director General, UNESCO

23 April is a symbolic date for world literature. It is on this date that the birth and deaths occurred of prominent authors. (Shakespeare, Cervantes, et al.) It was a natural choice for UNESCO's General Conference, held in Paris in 1995, to pay a world-wide tribute to books and authors on this date, encouraging everyone, and in particular young people, to discover the pleasure of reading and gain a renewed respect for the irreplaceable contributions of those, who have furthered the social and cultural progress of humanity.

In this regard, UNESCO created World Book and Copyright Day.

The Advisory Board and Friends of the Library representatives will be giving out roses on that day.
