Remember Us

A Book of Children's memories from the Holocaust, written by members of the Hungarian Hidden Children of New York, Inc. (HHC)

30 Jewish Hungarian men and women, who survived the Holocaust as children in hiding, relate memories of their trauma filled childhood. These are not the horror tales of the Holocaust that so much has been written about, rather they are the accounts of those experiences and memories of individuals that left indelible impressions in the minds of the storytellers and have influenced their lives...

SPOTS OF TIME, performing 11 June - 20 June, FRINGE FEST 2010
By: Christina  on: Fri 11 of Jun, 2010 [02:31 UTC]  (159 reads)

Lost love, ruined lives, and run-of-the-mill dementia...and there’s a twist — it’s funny! Spots of Time is a tragicomedy that delves into the mind of an ageing professor haunted by his past. Visions of his younger self lead him deeper down the rabbit hole, unraveling the threads of his sanity. Spots of Time is a unique production that spans generations with a cast and crew ranging from teens to seniors. Through it all they have developed a bond of friendship, trust and understanding that belies a 50 year age gap to produce theatre magic. The members of this production have a genuine passion for the arts, and isn’t that what The Montreal 2010 Fringe Festival is all about?

By: Christina  on: Fri 11 of Jun, 2010 [02:30 UTC]  (201 reads)
Festival St-Ambroise Fringe de Montréal and Random Thread Works present:

HOT PINK

Meet eighteen year-old Lindi: orphan, runaway, hermit. She lives in a cave on the edge of town, barely surviving on a steady diet of coffee, insomnia and denial. She’ll spin you tales of utopia on a dust particle, of love shattered like broken glass and of her alternate self, in the wee hours of the morning during a passing storm. What at first appears to be the ideal escape is ruptured when the frightening truth behind Lindi’s dream world comes to light. With only a teddy bear, a book and the voices in her head to give her strength, Lindi must face the music or spiral deeper into madness. A dark comedy disguised as an ode to lost souls, Hot Pink will tickle your inner child…

Introducing, 'No small potatoes: A Journey ', by Elizabeth Johnston
By: Christina  on: Fri 11 of Jun, 2010 [02:28 UTC]  (105 reads)

No Small Potatoes: A Journey

A book about food safety told through personal narratives so that complicated issues are made easier to understand and apply to one's own life.

I never thought a book about potatoes could be so interesting and informative. The story (and this does read as a story) about the history and exploitation of potato farming left me stunned. Its scope goes far beyond the potato. It sheds light on modern farming and the dangers of capitalism when money is more important than the well being of communities.
Review by Marni Maguire.

WALDENSONG SATURNALIA, Tribute to the Mythic Years

A Novel by A. D. Morvaye
Published by Prince Chameleon Press
Abandoned by her vast chaotic family, a young girl recreates them into legend. The novel is a fusion of memory and imagination, both humorous and dramatic. Played out against the shifting background of Old Europe versus the New World, it features the idiom of London’s impoverished East End, blending into the language of poetry and myth.

An excerpt from WALDENSONG SATURNALIA was short-listed for the Eastside Stories Competition, London, U.K., 1995.

REVIEWS
  • I was impressed by the sophistication of the language, the sense of place, IAIN SINCLAIR, British Novelist, London, U.K.
  • Lyrical, fairly sings off the page, a masterful job, KATHY GREEN, Magazine Editor, New York, U.S.A.
